Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is a national mission for financial inclusion to ensure affordable access to financial services, such as basic savings and deposit accounts, finance, credit, insurance, pensions. Under this scheme, a Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account can be opened in any bank branch or business respondent (Bank Mitra) outlet, by persons who do not have any other account.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is a scheme run by the Government of India under which Indian citizens, including those aged 10 years and above, who do not have a bank account, can open a bank account and enjoy general banking services such as remittances, credit, insurance. And services like pension etc. are made available.
The scheme was announced by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 15 August 2014 and launched on 28 August 2014.

How to open Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana account?
- You must be a citizen of India.
- You must be 10 years or older.
- You should not have a bank account.
To open an account for Jan Dhan Yojana you have to go to the bank affiliated with this scheme and there you will fill the form and you will have to provide the necessary documents. You have to process as mentioned by the bank and your account will be opened.

Benefits of Pradhanmantri Jan Dhan Yojana
- An account will be opened for those who do not have a single bank account.
- There is no requirement that the bank account opened under this scheme should have a minimum amount of Rs.
- Rupay debit card will be provided.
- An accident insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh is also available with the Rupay card issued to the account holders of this scheme. (Increased to Rs. 2 lakh for accounts opened under this scheme after 28.8.2018)
- Overdraft (OD) facility up to Rs 10,000 is available to certain eligible holders.
- Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts are eligible for Direct Benefit Transfer, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency Bank Yojana.
